Jason D. Reed teaches Our Persons, Houses, Papers, and Smart Phones: Evolving Expectations of Privacy in the Information Age at the University of Richmond School of Professional and Continuing Studies. This class examines interaction between evolving technologies and interpretations of the Fourth Amendment beginning with the telephone and continuing to this year’s NSA revelations and Supreme Court decisions. Mr. Reed uses his background in computer science to explain the constitutional issues raised by ever-changing digital technologies.Mr. Reed has also taught Legal Writing for Paralegals and Introduction to the Court System as well as guest lectured on the constitutional implications of drone surveillance at the College of William and Mary.
Stephen K. Armstrong teaches various Criminal Justice courses for John Tyler Community College, including Constitutional Law for Justice Personnel and Civil Liability for the Law Enforcement Professional. In addition, Mr. Armstrong is a guest lecturer at both the University of Richmond and the College of William and Mary on the laws relating to light, unmanned aircraft (“drones”). Mr. Armstrong draws upon his years of law enforcement experience to combine real-world scenarios with high-minded legal concepts to provide practical lessons for his students.
Law Enforcement Training
Both Mr. Reed and Mr. Armstrong regularly volunteer to assist in courtroom training for the Virginia State Police. Scenarios taken from real cases throughout the Commonwealth help to assist the Troopers in both preparation and testimony during their basic academy class.
